Espacio de trabajo jurídico internacional
Areas of practice

Intersection between law,
feminisms and institutional transformation

I connect international standards with real processes of change — from litigation to the design of gender-responsive and intersectional public policies.

International Law

Practical application of International Human Rights Law, International Criminal Law, and International Humanitarian Law in legal investigations, strategic litigation, and accountability processes before national, regional and international tribunals, as well as United Nations mechanisms.

Gender and intersectional analysis

Integration of gender-responsive and intersectional perspectives into legal analysis and institutional design. Assessment of differentiated impacts, identification of structural bias, and development of frameworks to address systemic inequalities.

Research and advocacy

Rigorous research, technical reports, and strategic documents aimed at supporting legal and policy advocacy work. Comparative analysis, documentation of International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian Law violations, and translation of international standards into concrete proposals for legal and public policy reform.

Training and capacity strengthening

Design and implementation of training programmes for civil society organisations, judicial actors, public institutions, and academic institutions on gender justice, intersectional analysis, and international law.

About me

Law does not only organise power,
it can also transform it

Teresa Fernández-Paredes
I believe justice begins with listening.

I am a lawyer specialised in Public International Law, with advanced training in human rights, international humanitarian law, and international criminal law. I hold a BA in Law and Political Science from Universidad Carlos III in Madrid, Spain, where I was awarded the Extraordinary Prize in Political Science.

I am currently finalising the Executive Master in International Law in Armed Conflict at the Geneva Academy (2024–2026). I hold an LLM in Public International Law from the American University Washington College of Law and a specialisation in Human Rights and Women’s Rights from the Faculty of Law at Universidad de Chile.

My practice combines rigorous legal analysis with an empathetic approach to working with people from diverse contexts, alongside a critical understanding of the power structures that shape the functioning of law and institutions. I integrate gender-responsive and intersectional approaches to analyse complex contexts, identify factors that perpetuate structural inequalities, and contribute, through law, to strengthening accountability processes, access justice, and institutional change.

Trayectoria

OHCHR — Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela

Gender Adviser & SGBV Investigator (P4)

I led investigations into sexual and gender-based violence, conducted trauma-informed interviews, and mainstreamed a gender perspective throughout the legal analysis and documentation of serious human rights violations and international crimes. I contributed to the drafting of reports and recommendations submitted to the United Nations’ Human Rights Council.

OHCHR — Regional Office for Central America (ROCA)

Human Rights Officer / Investigator (P3)

I participated in monitoring missions and documentation of serious human rights violations, including interviews and evidence collection. I conducted gender-responsive and intersectional data analysis to identify structural patterns and assess state responsibility under international law, and supported capacity strengthening of civil society organisations.

World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT)

Human Rights Adviser / Convention Against Torture Programme and Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders

I conducted legal research and coordinated reports and advocacy actions on torture and the protection of human rights defenders. I designed advocacy strategies, coordinated international missions and events, and provided technical advice to state authorities and civil society organisations, integrating a gender-responsive and intersectional approach.

Women’s Link Worldwide

Attorney

During my time at the organisation, where I progressed from junior lawyer to legal director, I led and supervised strategic litigation before national courts, regional human rights systems, and United Nations treaty bodies in cases involving sexual violence, trafficking, migration, transitional justice, and sexual and reproductive rights. I designed legal and advocacy strategies, coordinated multidisciplinary teams, developed training programmes for students, peers, and justice sector actors, and represented the organisation in national and international spaces to advance structural reform through a gender perspective.
